The Creation Process
Like all things in the tech industry, building custom cables and cable assemblies starts with minute details. Each custom cable project begins with a need. We work directly with our clients to determine each detail of what they need from their cable assembly or wire harness. Our team of engineers takes your idea to the drawing board to create the concept and blueprint. This portion of an order is the design phase, where we create a first draft of the soon-to-be-finished product.
During the design phase, we will finetune the design elements that your cable needs to include. The little details make a big difference in your cable assembly. These details will help mold the cables, connections, conductors, and design into the ideal cable solution. We tailor your assembly to be precisely what you need for your equipment.
The precise specifications that go into building a custom cable assembly are what matter most. Every cable is unique and requires ultra-precise elements. We make cable assemblies with custom elements to ensure it’s the ideal assembly for your needs. You get to choose from multiple customizable components to optimize your cable’s performance and integration into your existing set-up.
Some of the elements that you can select are as follows:
Custom Conductors and Sizes

Custom Conductors and Sizes
In order to get the most out of your cables or wires, you can select from a range of conductor materials and sizes. While most conductors are made from a base of copper wiring, we can customize them with alloys or rare metals for better compatibility. Your equipment will determine the best option for the metal that is used for your cables. Adding a rare metal to your cable conductor can improve capacity and optimize performance.
At Meridian, we custom extrude our conductors down to the millimeter. Doing this in-house allows us to create ultra-precise conductor sizes for custom cable assemblies and wire harnesses. The intended function and your equipment will determine the appropriate conductor size you will need. Regardless of the conductor material or size you need, we have customization options to suit your requirements.
Conductor Color
You can add custom colors to your conductors to keep your cable assembly organized. You will always know which conductor goes with which connection when everything is color-coded. With 25 unique color options and patterns to choose from, proper cable management can be an effortless affair.
Shielding

Shielding
As its name suggests, shielding is an additional layer of protection for your cable. Shielding is a thin layer of a metallic material within the cable that deflects electromagnetic interference (EMI). If you operate in an electronically noisy area, like a server room or tech booth, EMI can seriously threaten data as it travels through the cable. Shielding helps prevent data from being corrupted or wholly destroyed.
A few different types of shielding can be added to a cable assembly. Though each class has the same primary purpose, the various designs offer unique properties.
Some of the options you have for shielding include:
- Foil shielding: Foil shielding is a single thin strip of aluminum spiraled around the inner parts of the cable. This method completely covers the conductor, filling, and insulator. While it provides the most thorough protection, it makes the cable less flexible.
- Braided shielding: Braided shielding is made by weaving multiple tiny metal strips together. This method creates a cylindrical braid of protection around the inner cable components. While this method provides more flexibility, it does not cover the conductor entirely. Braided shielding does not provide the thorough protection that you have with foil shielding.
- Combination shielding: This method combines the best of both shielding options, which gives you flexibility and total coverage.
Custom Stranding

Custom Stranding
Stranding your conductor can improve your cable’s capacity and reliability. Instead of a single conductor, stranding weaves multiple conductors together. Adding stranding to your cable assembly can increase your cable's stability and flow capacity. While not all cables need stranding, it can be a helpful addition if your equipment requires a higher flow of signal or electricity.
Filler and Insulation

Filler and Insulation
You can choose which filler and insulation you want for your cable assembly. We offer a range of materials to give you plenty of options. You can select from filler and insulation materials such as:
- Cotton
- PVC
- Kevlar
- Nylon
- Fleece
Custom Connectors

Custom Connectors
Life would be easier if every connection were created equal, but that’s not the case. There are countless possible connector designs and even multiple in a single piece of equipment. That’s why we offer custom connections to ensure your cables are docking correctly. We can build everything from the casing to the pins. We can create the ideal cable connectors to fit your tech.
Jacket Material

Jacket Material
As the outermost layer of protection, the jacket plays an essential role in any cable. This portion of the cable protects the cable from outside elements, like dust and moisture. Additionally, the jacket ensures that the flow of electricity is properly contained within the cable. When building your cable assembly, you can select from a range of materials to put the finishing touch on your project.
